BLIAIN ÚR FAOI MHAISE DAOIBH.

‘So what are you going to do for the New Year?
‘Me?’
‘Yes you. Who else is here?’
‘Why are you asking that. Nobody else is here. You know that. That’s typical of you. Who else is here? Why do you jump in like that before I have even a chance to answer? ’
‘You don’t need to be so cranky. I asked you a simple question. You as usual didn’t give a straight answer. Me you said! That’s why I asked you who else is here. Because you asked me’.
‘I didn’t ask you anything. You are the one asking all the questions.’
‘I don’t mean you asked me’.
‘Well that’s what you said.’
‘I know rightly what I said. Listen to what I mean. You answered my question by saying ‘me’. That’s why I asked you who else is here’.
‘ What is it you want to know anyway?’
‘What are you going to do for the New Year?’
‘What do you mean?’
‘I mean are you making any New Year resolutions?’
‘I haven’t given it much thought. And another thing ....I’m not being cranky.’
‘Oh yes you are. Very cranky indeed.’
‘Why do you want to know what I’m doing for the New Year?’
‘Why do you always answer a question with a question?’
‘Why don’t you ever answer a question?’
‘I’m sorry I asked in the first place. I was just making conversation. It is the New Year after all and most people make resolutions so I was just asking what you are going to do. But of course you are an ignoramus so you don’t appreciate conversation or communication between people. You just want to be a latchico, an oul fuddy duddy.’
‘You’re one to talk! An ignoramus? Me? Better than being a bloody dictator. That’s what you are. A bloody dictator. You won’t let anyone be. We don’t all have to be talking machines you know. The least said, the soonest mended. You and your stupid questions. That’s what I’m going to do for the New Year’.
‘I don’t care what you’re going to do’.
‘What? You don’t care. You don’t care!! That’s a good one. Well why then did you start this silly stupid row? Especially just before the New Year!’

‘Are you saying I started this row?’ Is that what you’re saying?’

‘There you go again. Same old story. Answering a question with a question.’

‘And that whether you like to hear it or not is what I’m giving up. Answering your silly questions. That’s what!’

‘Well it’s good to know you are going to do something. That’ll make a change from your usual oul malarkey. A happy New year to you’.
‘You bloody too. Bliain úr faoi mhaise duit. 2011 here we come’
‘Ha bloody ha’.

A QUIET CHRISTMAS or NOT so New Years. A good start to a very interesting year ahead 2011, is the year of Sinn Féin and Gerry Adams. The defences of a nation against annihilation are two, physical and spiritual. Public policy is the nature of a platform policy and speaking,an educational movement. Framing of a public policy which should preserve principles and yet be a workable alternative. I'm reading a short booklet published in 1911 by A Irishman "THE FINANCIAL RELATIONS OF IRELAND
WITH THE IMPERIAL EXCHEQUER". I can see that this 41 page booklet point is, after a view of the numbers: "I think clearly shows that what-ever the future government of Ireland may be, means should be found to secure that the accounts as between England and Ireland should be prepared on a more accurate basis, and not open to the challenge that under the existing system they are misleading, inaccurate, and un-fair as those issued July 20th, 1910" . Maybe little has change in 100 years.

This sounds very like a familiar case of the chin talking to the beard ;-) !

I'm still not entirely sure what's going on in this blog but i like to tune in anyway, seeing as it's yourself that posts it.

The arguementative tone of this one expresses fully why I don't celebrate christmas anymore and this year I had a nice peaceful time and didn't get hooked into any of it.

Happy new year Gerry. Whenever the election is called for the South I hope SF gear up well for a good campaign. You've got the best candidates and the best strategy for making Ireland workable and sustainable as a single political entity.

Until the root cause of Ireland's troubles is resolved, i.e. partition, it'll never ammount to a hill of beans and it's people will be raised only to supply the UK's labor needs. it's sad to think that so many there simply can't or won't see that, for whatever reason.

I see that 1,000 people left each week last year. The colleges and Universities should be closed down immediately. Why should the tax-payer educate people for England and America to then reap the benefit.

David cameron's opposition to a graduate tax was that those graduates would emmigrate to avoid it. Once again Ireland supplies workers for the UK economy. It's a disgrace.

Blog January 21st 10 Apparently the DUP were sitting up at Stormont Castle on Thursday waiting for the Shinners to come and talk to them. Strange. This Blog had told Peter Robinson late the evening before that that phase of our discussions was over. I told him there would be a Sinn Féin national officer board meeting on Thursday and a report from Martin McGuinness on the negotiations would be discussed. The failure of the DUP thus far to come up to the plate during the current round of negotiations shouldn’t come as any great surprise. The DUP are looking over their shoulder at Jim Allister and then there are the ‘secret’ talks between the UUs and the DUP and talk of electoral pacts. That’s their own business and nothing to get too excited about. Except to note they told us they couldn’t do any business on the Sabbath – the very day they were busy on unionist unity business. But lest we forget the DUP was born out of the anti civil rights politics of the late 60s and the firebrand unio...

Remembering Bobby Sands.

In 1973 just before midnight on Christmas Eve, I was caught along with three other comrades attempting to escape from Long Kesh. We were among a large group of men and women interned without charge or trial. My first bout of internment was on the Maidstone Prison Ship in 1972. Internees-the British later called us detainees as part of their fiction that internment was ended – were held in Armagh Women’s Gaol, Belfast Prison, Magilligan, and Long Kesh. In July 1974 I was caught again in another escape bid. Steve McQueen I was not. The following March 1975 I was taken out to court where I was convicted on the first escape attempt and received an 18 month sentence. A month later I was convicted of the second escape attempt and got another three years. Then as the rest of the internees were being released a small group of us nearly got-aways were moved out of the internee end of Long Kesh to the top end of the camp where the sentenced POWs were held. We were incarcerated in Cage...

Remembering Bobby and his comrades

Today marks the anniversary of the death of my friend and comrade Bobby Sands on the sixty sixth day of hunger strike. I don’t remember the first time I met Bobby. I had been interned in Long Kesh and was sentenced for trying to escape and found myself in Cage 11, in another part of the camp which held sentenced political prisoners. Bobby was already one of those in the Cage. The cages were literally that - a large space surrounded by a high wire fence in which there were four Nissan huts, a study hut and a toilet shower hut. In the sentenced end of Long Kesh these each held around 80 prisoners. In Cage 11 one of the Nissan huts was also a Gaeltacht for those wanting to learn the Irish language and that’s were Bobby was. I remember him as a keen sportsman who played soccer or gaelic football whenever he got the chance. He had long hair, a good sense of humour and liked music. He was very good on the guitar. I remember sitting in the study hut writing while he would be practic...
