IN THE MEANTIME...

I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS BLOGGING BUSINESS COULD BECOME CONTAGIOUS. THE INITIAL RESPONSE TO MY FIRST BLOG HAS BEEN VERY INTERESTING. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I SEE ALL THE COMMENTS I FEEL GUILTY THAT I CANT RESPOND ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. IT IS LIKE NOT ANSWERING A LETTER. AND I ALWAYS TRY TO ANSWER ALL MY LETTERS.

IT WOULD BE GREAT CRAIC IF I COULD ANSWER ALL THE BLOGGERS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO COMMENT. IF I HAD THE TIME. BUT I DONT HAVE THE TIME. SO WHAT TO DO? WELL TO BEGIN LET ME WELCOME ALL COMMENTS, GOOD OR BAD. BLOGGING SEEMS TO BE A VERY DEMOCRATIC CARRY ON AND I LIKE THAT. LET ME ALSO THANK EVERYONE WHO TOOK THE TIME TO ENTER THIS SPACE. GO RAIBH MAITH AGAT. LET ME ALSO EXPLAIN HOW COMPUTER ILLITERATE I AM. FOR EXAMPLE I NOTICED A FEW LINES BACK THAT I AM TYPING IN CAPITALS.

I DONT KNOW HOW TO UNDO THAT AND I DONT WANT TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT GETTING THIS FAR TOOK ME HALF AN HOUR EVEN THOUGH THE EXPERT AT THE BELFAST MEDIA GROUP GAVE ME TWO PAGES OF WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. AND IM ONLY BACK FROM DUBLIN.

I WAS THERE YESTERDAY AS WELL FOR TONY GREGORYS FUNERAL AND CAME BACK TO DO MEDIA ABOUT UPCOMING CHANGES IN THE SINN FÉIN LEADERSHIP AT NEXT MONTHS ARD FHEIS AND TO MEET THE USA SPECIAL ENVOY THIS MORNING BEFORE HEADING BACK TO DUBLIN AGAIN. IT IS THE LAST WEEK OR SO OF HER REMIT AND ALONGSIDE OUR OWN ISSUES WE RAISED THE USA ATTITUDE TO THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENTS ATTACKS ON THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE. SEE STATEMENT BELOW.I ALSO GOT NEWS ABOUT FG WILSON LAY OFFS. BAD SCEAL! SO WE ARE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT.

ALL THIS IS BY WAY OF EXPLANATION AND ME THINKING ALOUD IN A BLOGGY SORTOFAWAY ABOUT HOW I INTEND TO PROCEED. FIRST OF ALL IT SEEMS TO ME THAT BLOGGING IS A PROCESS. SO SUBJECT TO HOW I SURVIVE THIS WAY OF WORKING I WILL TRY TO GET AROUND EVENTUALLY TO THE ISSUES MY BROTHER AND SISTER BLOGGERS HAVE RAISED. OF COURSE I ALSO WANT TO RAISE ISSUES THAT ARE OF CONCERN TO ME. SO WE WILL SEE HOW ALL THIS WORKS OUT. FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED I HOPE THIS INTERIM FEED BACK IS SUFFICENT. NOW LETS SEE IF I CAN POST THIS.... WHAT DO THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY? HIT PUBLISH POST. OK. HERE GOES!!! UNTIL MY NEXT 'PROPER' BLOG ....SLÁN.

Editor's note: our photograph shows Paula Dobriansky (right), outgoing US envoy to the North of Ireland, with Geraldine McAteer, ceo of the West Belfast Partnership Board, and former US Consul General Dean Pittman during a June 2007 visit to West Belfast.

Just wanted to say thank you for taking the opportunity to make those comments about the US attitude towards the Israeli attacks on Gaza during Ambassador Dobriansky's vist.

Equally disappointing/outrageous is Obama's silence on the issue...

Welcome to blogging Gerry. As a unionist who reads a range of blogs to try and get a wider perspective on things, I look forward to reading your opinions. I hope that the blog will help you to reach out all our people and create constructive dialog, and have a bit of fun. However, if you don't get me ranting and raving once in a while you won't be doing it right!!
Happy blogging.

PS. Don't worry about capitals vs lowercase. Sod's law dictates that the 'Caps Lock' button always does the opposite of what you hope it will do!

Hello Gerry
Paul Doran Here Clondalkin
I note your comments on SF trying to develop in South. From my experience Sf have a very long way to go.for what its worth I was a member of the local Cuman in Clondalkin which was and probaly still is very active, but the organisation in Dublin is crap.I was amazed to see how SF ran the show in Dublin I know all other parties are the same.

I have always found your support for gaza interesting, perhaps because of your own experiences. Don't you think Israel has a right to defend itself, and therefore the best thing for Hamas to do would be to stop firing rockets and allow Israel to be exposed, if they really are these evil people your contributors seem to think they are? Israel can only justify their actions when they are attacked...stop the attacks...Israel can't fight.

A Gerry,

Ná bí ag úsáid an "caps lock". ;) Tá sé in aice leis an "A".

Ar aon nós - I was on my way home tonight in a shared 7-seater taxi.. The recession amongst other issues were brought up. Everyone seemed utterly disgusted with the current Government's reaction to the recession in the 26 counties and wanted radical change in how our Government operates. I understand cuts had to be made to co-exist with the current economic climate, but when our very own politicians are absorbing our tax un-needlessly for hair-cuts and other nonsense, they are hardly in a position to reinforce a budget that infringes upon our lifestyle, health and education.

My father has recently lost his redundancy due to the fall of Waterford Crystal, and like him - many working class families in Ireland are now paying the price because of greedy, self-absorbed politicians.

Now more than ever, the Irish public needs Sinn Féin to be in Government at it's highest level, to ensure working class people like myself and my father are not shafted.

We need change in Ireland. We demand change in Ireland. Now is our time, and we will work our hearts out to ensure the working class people of Ireland have someone looking out for them; Because right now, the only thing our Government is looking out for is #1.

Le meas,
Seán Ó Briain
Port Láirge

Ádh mór, agus brón orm fán Ghaeilge bhriste!

The IRA were an illegal terrorist group Mr Adams, now you are trying to rewrite history with pathetic blogs and objections to memorials (such as the one that was meant for Omagh) When you do face the innocent people of Omagh, The Remembrance Day Bombing and the 100's of innocent Catholics that were murdered, many of whom are still missing, buried in the countryside somewhere? The innocents revenge will be the look on your face, when you have to stand in front of these people in the next life and tell them why you supported the "cause"

Sleep well Mr Adams, for there are Mothers, Fathers, Son's and Daughters all over Northern Ireland tonight, that will have no sleep.

European Jews initiated the 1948 Palestian Ethnic Cleansing with dozens of massacres of innocent Palestians resulting in the forced exiling of hundreds of thousands of innocents from their land which the Europeans immediately claimed as their own.
Give the Palestians back their stolen lands and lives and only then can there be peace in the Middle East.
European Jews rightly got back any property stolen under the Nazis but those same Europeans and their descendents have a double standard when it comes to Palestians being given back their rightful property.
Either Justice is blind or there is no Justice at all.

Darren Do you know what a fanatical is?It comes very close to what you are spewing.

Spreading hatred, no matter what the reasoning,is not the way to bring justice to the people of Ohmagh by your shallow agenda. You do not speak for 100's of Catholics but Gerry Adams does.

Gerry becomes your problem only when you can't express yourself other than to hate, a very shallow and ineffective way of communicating, leaving you no satifaction in what you do expect creating havic to others.

yes, amen to that!

And (as many keen bloggers might be 'breaking their asses' to tell you) in the blogoshere all-capitals is the 'height of bad form', lol, but sometimes I think it just looks nice! Apparently it represents shouting! Now, who do we know who used to do a lot of that in the bad old days?

PS I've a feeling many of said bloggers will be just as interested in the fist you're making of the blogging business, as in the very pertinent topics you raise!
Thanks for the bit of blogging craic!

Gerry, great to see you blogging. I hope at some point you’ll take time to say more about changes in SF leadership. Working class women rarely get the opportunity to take positions of political leadership and I was disappointed that SF recent changes haven’t addressed this. It’s not as though SF doesn’t have a wealth of amazing working class women politicians and activists to choose from. Of course it’s policies that matter most but leadership does have an important inspirational and aspirational role.

I have alway's had a special place in me for the republican movement, as a youngster from a corporation estate and felt like an outsider in mainstream society, knowing my fellow countrymen in the occ.6 counties experience'd and stood up to worse has had a very positive effect on me. I now find it hard to criticise but the R.M. is moving toward.s the right and myself is feeling more socialist.I hope the R.M.move's back to it's root's. T.A.L.

Mr Adams,

I'm sure as time goes on this blog will grow as well as your IT skills.

I think it's brilliant that the party President from time to time can share his personal thoughts and concerns of topical discussion. I hope you keep it up and look forward to future posts.
